This year I had Christmas at home with my Mum and Dad in Golden Bay, New Zealand. They live there permanently and enjoy the region’s relaxed way of life.
The area is abundant with artists and creative talent. And it is not surprising they flock here, when all you have to do is take a quick look around you to find beautiful natural scenery and inspiration.
The main town of Takaka is where you will find most artist’s studios and galleries. Many also have their own secluded galleries dotted along the main road to other scenic parts of the area. A nice excuse to have a break from that long drive or cycle!
There are many jewellers in Takaka, but my favourite is Stone Arrow. They use sustainable methods of jewellery making along with recycled materials. The design is certainly not compromised though by using sustainable materials. The designs reflect the beautiful local nature of New Zealand in a contemporary way. I receive so many lovely comments about the Stone Arrow jewellery I wear, and I am extremely proud to tell them where it is from and the ethics behind the brand.
Stone Arrow have been a finalist in the New Zealand Sustainable Business Network Awards twice, and continue to strive to be one of the most ethical and sustainable businesses in New Zealand, clearly outlining their policy and commitment to this on their website.
So, what did I receive this year for Christmas? A beautiful set of earrings from Stone Arrow (see photos below!). They are made from recycled sterling silver with a 9ct gold plate. They are so unusual in their design and that is what I love about them! The design instantly reminds me of New Zealand’s native forests, is therefore very special to me. I love wearing these earrings!
There are many popular designs across the range - and they are instantly recognisable as Stone Arrow. These designs are usually always available, so don't worry you will not miss out! I especially love the jewellery made from glass (cut from disused bottles) - another creative, colourful and sustainable resource.
Stone Arrow is proof that a sustainable, locally made product can succeed and outshine others. All jewellery is made by local craftspeople and provides jobs and income for many. I am very proud of New Zealand’s enthusiasm for sustainability and championing the arts and culture of this amazing place.
